PLEASE READ THE NOTES BELOW. IT WILL HELP YOU UNDERSTAND HOW TO VIEW THE INFORMATION
At this point in time (late
2006) the family tree has been traced back to Nathaniel Schmalhausen. The
majority of the information here starts from his descendants, who are:
Abraham; Morris; Raphael; Reisel. These are where the branches of the family
tree start from on here and the known children of the earliest known family
member, Nathaniel.
For each of these
four family members there are pages for each of their children and perhaps
for their grandchildren.
Pages show the descendants
of that branch. There is also a MAYBE Page which is "possible descendants."
The pages have names like Abrfamly.txt, Zevfamly.txt, Kontfam.txt, etc.
and are located appropriatly. The number preceeding each name in the file
is the number of the generation after Nathaniel, the earliest known family
member. The main FAMILY TREE page gives the family names and structure
of the family all in one place. The FIRST FOUR is only the first four generations
and still needs format repairs and additions.
The copies of documents may have to be printed to read them. It may be necessary to greatly enlarge a document several times to make them readable. This is likely to happen with passenger lists where the originals were very large. Keep in mind that many of the documents were 75 to 100 years old when photographed. Some will be darker top/bottom or right/left. US Passenger lists are generally quite long. They must be folded to move our passenger up to the headings and then folded again so that a double scan can be made which is stitched together. Every attempt was made to stitch at our passengers name so that line would be clear.
A further complication arises in which subdirectory to place a record. We have photographs of Rachel, wife of Morris. Her photographs should go into the Morris subdirectory. If there are other family members in the picture, they will accompany her, the senior member. In later photographs, they will be in their own subdirectory. Also, in the case of May Konter (mother: Kate (Gitel) Schmalhausen Konter), she will be in the Konter subdirectory until her marriage to Sander Smalheiser. There is an attempt to cross reference the pictures. Please note that these are guidelines and there may be changes depending on the situation.
The naming of the photograph and document files is basically in the order in which they were taken for scanning. There is little significance to the name. However, if a page is one of two, the name may have a T, B, L or R in the name to show which is the Top, Bottom, Left or Right page.
WE WILL WELCOME SIGNIFICANT
PICTURES AND DOCUMENTS THAT YOU MAY HAVE. PLEASE DO NOT SEND XEROX COPIES.
THEY WILL NOT COPY WELL. A PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGE IS BEST. HAVE A PHOTOGRAPHER
COPY YOUR PHOTOS AND SEND THE COPY TO ME TO SCAN INTO THE NEXT CD ROM.
I WILL RETURN THE
COPY TO YOU.
Please Understand this is
a work in progress. Updates will be made which may take years.
